History Boston Captains (?–present)

The Boston Captains are a professional football team based in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. A charter member of the American Football Association, the Captains play their home games at Kenmore Stadium.

History[]

The Captains are a merger of two Atlantic League franchises; namely, the Albany Indians and the Boston Riders. While the Indians had been one of the more successful AL teams, everything came to a halt in 1943 when their owner, U.S. Navy Captain Eugene MacMillan, was killed in action during World War II. His surviving family did not wish to continue operating the Indians franchise, planning to liquidate it as soon as the war ended.

However, Riders owner Buzz Black would purchase the Indians, assume their player contracts for his team, and rename them the Boston Captains in honor of Captain MacMillan.

More coming soon.
